Happy Birthday!

Well, today is Savannah's birthday. She is one year old. I can still remember when they brought her out of the surgery room, looking all grey and lifeless, draped over a nurses arm like a rag. She really did look like a rag, too.

Looking at her now I can hardly tell. She's gotten so big! and now she has a little baby bro/sis on the way! Excited!

One year ago, I was sitting next to my wife, who was coming out of the morphine, in the critical care ward at Hillcrest. Her groggy first words were, "Is she OK?" and at that point it was actually a good question. After I reassured her that she was, she said, "Is someone taking care of the ministry center at church?" That was part of her job at the church, and, if you know Angel at all, this statement wouldn't have surprised you, either.

Anyway, praise the lord that Savannah is OK. I think one of the most amazing things about it, really, is that looking back, we never asked the fundamental question that everyone asks when going through hard things.

Why?

Why did this happen to us? To Savannah?

I guess the reality is that we were grateful; we sort of chose to see the glass half-full, so to speak.

She is ALIVE, after all. And she's so cute! So happy-birthday, sweetheart, we love you.
