Throaty issues
OK; our results from the doctor's appt in OKC are as follows:
Her left vocal chord is paralyzed, for how long we're not sure. The doc said that if it was from "ideopathic" reasons (what does that mean? I have no clue.) then she would just grow out of it. But since she had PDA surgery, it could be the result of them cutting around the ductus artery, which the nerve for the left vocal chord is wrapped around. They said that if this was the case that she had a 50/50 shot of out growing it, or just being hoarse for the rest of her life. And of course this gives her more complicated breathing problems, b/c at rest a vocal chord will reduce the amount of flow that is allowed through the throat. In adults this could be rectified through surgery, but for kids they don't want to risk it. That is what we know. SO; that sucks. But we are praying and believing that she will grow out of it, and will have a perfectly normal voice. If you are reading this, please say a prayer!
thanks
Zack

Basically, "idiopathic" means the doc doesn't know what the cause is. A more honest/ethical doctor would tell you straight up "I don't know what the problem is." Don't let him/her get away with that sort of jargon . . . if you don't know what they're saying, call 'em on it.
God bless, and good luck.
